The goal of the BCBSMA Foundation is to help improve access to health care for uninsured and low-income residents of Massachusetts. In the Commonwealth, there are more than 200 community-based organizations and thousands of providers dedicated to serving the health care needs of the uninsured and under-insured. However, there remain more than 400,000 individuals without health insurance; many others do not receive the care or services they need. The reasons are numerous, the obstacles are complex, and the resources to remedy the situation are scarce.
Through the Foundation's grantmaking and community partnership area, funds and technical support will be available to eligible organizations so they can:
- Enhance their services to the uninsured, low-income and underserved
- Expand health care service delivery to the uninsured
- Develop new programs that fill the gaps in care and coverage
- Advance policy initiatives that benefit the uninsured and low income
