In addition to its grantmaking programs, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation provides information about health access and health policy issues to the public, policymakers, the media, providers, and advocates. Our goal is to raise the profile of the uninsured, broaden public debate on health care issues, and establish health care access as a priority on the Commonwealth's public policy agenda. To meet this goal, the Foundation:
- Sponsors surveys, reports, applied policy research, and evaluations that investigate various aspects of the health access issue in Massachusetts.
- Trains journalists on health care issues through the Health Coverage Fellowship.
- Convenes meetings of Massachusetts health, business, and political leaders on health access issues, such as Taking the Public's Pulse: Summit on Access.
- Links our community grants to the development of public policy.
- Directly funds community-based policy projects, such as through Strengthening Voices for Access grants.
Through these efforts, the Foundation hopes to steer the public conversation about access issues toward sustainable solutions that expand coverage and reduce barriers that prevent people from getting the care they need.
